Kathy Pilkington, member

Kathy’s practice includes commercial acquisitions of both developed and undeveloped property, real estate development and real estate secured financing. She has extensive experience representing and counseling clients regarding real estate due diligence. She represents landlords and tenants in drafting and negotiating commercial leases. She has represented both lenders and borrowers in the negotiation of real estate secured loans. 

Prior to joining Bringewatt, Wolter & Snover, Kathy was a partner in the Real Estate and Land Use department of the international law firm of McGuireWoods. She has practiced for 29 years in the real estate area, first with Smith Helms Mulliss & Moore L.L.P. which she joined in 1989. Smith Helms became Helms Mulliss and Wicker which merged with McGuireWoods LLP in 2008.  Kathy received the Walter Clark Award from the University of North Carolina School of Law. 

Her broad range of experience includes:
Represented a company in the acquisition of land for a charter school.
• Represented developer in the negotiation of contracts to sell developed lots to builders.
• Represented the owner of a LEED-certified office building with the drafting of an office lease and the leasing of space in the building to tenants.
• Represented a company with the relocation of its headquarters and negotiation of its lease of a 10-story office building.
• Represented a large corporation in the acquisition of land in a western North Carolina county for the development of a data center.
• Advises a continuing care retirement community on various legal matters, including financing transactions and other real estate matters involving its ownership and management of approximately 100 acres of land.

Personal
Kathy has one son who was awarded his Ph.D. in History from Columbia University in 2013.  She is a member of the Session of First Presbyterian Church of Concord where she serves on the Building and Grounds Committee and a member of the Board of Directors of the Memorial Garden Association.
